12/22/2023 0 Comments Qobuz libraryWhat I found (to my ears) is what I tried to explain to John above. So finally getting a DAC that was DSD capable I became more curious. So I learned as I went along about the different sample rates ,PCM, and then DSD. But then again I hadn’t done anything equipment wise for the 15 years before that. ![]() ![]() When I first started experimenting with DAC’s about 8-10 years ago I hadn’t really heard of PSA. The Macmini is no longer with us (RIP), but in the future I MIGHT rip my cd’s to a dedicated server (PSA ?) and send my player into retirement. Some 10-15 years ago I ripped my cd’s to a Macmini. Picking a cd out of my cd rack, walking to my player and back to the couch is part of my daily workout and keeps me young, fit and healthy □ That could change in the future of course.Īnd although playing ripped cd’s from a HDD/SSD IS definitely more convenient (it is), I sympathise with what FR says about this. Not dependent on their library a lot of my cd’s are not “available” on Qobuz/Tidal.Īlso not unimportant (understatement), a well recorded cd (as most of mine are) sounds WAAAAAAY better than the Qobuz/Tidal version. Not dependent on whether they still exist or not a year (or 2, or 3…) from now ! The main reason is that I do NOT want to be DEPENDENT ON Qobuz/Tidal. Having said that, I still buy (not by the hundreds) and play cd’s via a player. Very nice for discovering new music (I like that very much) and making your own playlists. I wonder which group attends more live music events.įirst of all : I have a Qobuz subscription. The people buying vinyl in my local stores look more like my demographic rather than youngsters starting a new collection, unless they are buying on-line of course! Does anyone still collect DVDs or even BluRay discs now? Propbably the same people who have vinyl and CDs. So it might be more accurate to say that the number of people who actually have a physical library is declining and I suspect will continue to do so despite the vinyl revival. My personal use of my Vinyl LP collection goes up and down over time but no doubt, Web Radio, Qobuz and my NAS are more convenient sources, esepcially if its for background listening where you dont want to change sides while busy doing something else. ![]() I just dont see them any more and visitors to my home look at my LP collection as if they are in a museum. When I was (much) younger any home I visited had a collection of vinyl, audio cassettes, VHS Videos, DVDs etc. The decline of music libraries can be observed directly so it seems a reasonable postulation.
